**Gatling version** :3.14.9
**Gatling flavor** : java kotlin scala javascript typescript
**Gatling build tool** : maven gradle sbt bundle npm

I made sure I’ve update my Gatling version to the latest release
I read the [guidelines](https://community.gatling.io/t/welcome-in-the-gatling-community-our-code-of-conduct/6462) and [how to ask a question](https://community.gatling.io/t/how-to-ask-a-question/6538) topics.
I provided a [SSCCE](http://www.sscce.org/) (or at least, all information to help the community understand my topic)
I copied output I observe, and explain what I think should be.

Hello,

I have a question about `gatling.jvmArgs`.

Running the included BasicSimulation as shown below completes successfully.

> .\mvnw.cmd gatling:test “-Dgatling.simulationClass=example.BasicSimulation” “-Dgatling.jvmArgs=-Xms512m,-Xmx512m,-Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t”

However, an error occurs when running the included BasicSimulation as shown below.
\*Note: The decorator has been changed from `t` to `t,l`.

> .\mvnw.cmd gatling:test “-Dgatling.simulationClass=example.BasicSimulation” “-Dgatling.jvmArgs=-Xms512m,-Xmx512m,-Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t,l”

I ran it again with the -X option.

> .\mvnw.cmd gatling:test “-Dgatling.simulationClass=example.BasicSimulation” “-Dgatling.jvmArgs=-Xms512m,-Xmx512m,-Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t,l” -X

You will see output like the following in the console.

> [DEBUG] (f) jvmArgs = [-Xms512m, -Xmx512m, -Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t, l]

I would like to specify the following three:
-Xms512m
-Xmx512m
-Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t,l

However, in reality, `-Xlog:gc*:file=gc.log:t,l` is split by commas, resulting in the following four items being specified:
-Xms512m
-Xmx512m
-Xlog:gc\*:file=gc.log:t
l

Is it possible to pass the option `-Xlog:gc*:file=gc.log:t,l` by escaping the commas or using a similar method?
Also, are there any other ways to pass `-Xlog:gc*:file=gc.log:t,l` to the Gatling process?

Thank you.

That’s not possible. Comma is the list separator in maven. You can try configuring these in your pom.xml and only enable them based on a profile.

Thank you for your reply.

I wasn’t aware that JVM arguments for the Gatling process could also be configured in the pom.xml.

I confirmed that, by configuring them in the pom.xml as you suggested, it is possible to pass configuration values containing commas.

This solves my issue. Thank you for the helpful suggestion.
